HYALURONIC DERMAL FILLERS  are hyaluronic acid-based products of non-animal origin, thus reducing the possibility of an allergic reaction.

Today, fillers are the gold standard in aesthetic facial treatments and are used for correcting wrinkles, dark circles, the shaping of cheekbones, chin and nose, lip augmentation, reducing scars and skin hydration.

They vary in their viscosity, and the doctor will recommend a product of suitable viscosity depending on the issue. The durability of the product is from 6 to 18 months depending on viscosity – thinner formulations having a shorter and thicker formulations a longer durability. The role of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, is also important and the product may be processed somewhat more quickly in people with enhanced activity of this enzyme.

Our eye clinic uses fillers from renowned producers: Juvederm, produced by Allergan, and Resylan, produced by Galderma.

The procedure:

* skin cleansing

* application of local anaesthetic in cream form, waiting 15-20 minutes for it to take effect

* removal of the anaesthetic

* dermal filler application – the dermal filler is applied shallowly or deeply beneath the skin using a thin needle or cannula. The application is usually painless, although persons more sensitive to pain may feel a certain level of discomfort depending on the place of application.

* massage

Procedure after the application: it is recommended to avoid exposure to sunlight, not to use tanning beds and saunas for at least 24 h, and to roughly massage the treated area

Side effects:  redness, swelling and haematoma may appear in the area of application. The redness disappears within a couple of hours, and the swelling and haematoma disappear in a couple of days. The application of cold compresses may help. Other, more severe side effects, such as allergic reactions or skin necrosis, are extremely rare..

Contraindications : skin infections (bacterial, fungal or viral) in the area intended for treatment, blood thickening disorder, connective tissue disease, pregnancy and lactation.

If a person planning to use a dermal filler has frequent herpes simplex infections (5 or more times a year), it is recommended to introduce prophylactic antiviral oral therapy. Otherwise, the application of fillers may stimulate the reactivation of herpes.
